Turn potential into a plan
Application strategy and mentorship for high school and college students, from finding direction to hitting submit to thriving once you're there. Virtual, for students across the US and around the world.
Early deadlines are in November. Seniors applying early should start now.
College applications ask students who they are before they've had the chance to figure it out.
Why work with me
My job is to help them get there, then tell that story clearly and confidently.
I know what it means to build a path through change. I went to three high schools in three countries in four years, across the US, Seoul, and Tokyo. I went on to study neuroscience at Emory, earn my MBA at Duke, and build a career at companies like Dropbox and Instacart. I bring all of that to every student I work with.
Think of me as the wise older sister:
honest, steady, and in your corner.

Questions
Do you work with international students?
Yes. I work with students across the US and globally, and I schedule across time zones.
Do you write the essays?
No. Students write their own essays. I help them find their story, shape their drafts, and make every word count.
Can you guarantee admissions?
No one honestly can. What I can promise is a stronger, clearer application and a student who feels confident in it.
Is this counseling?
This is mentorship and application strategy. For mental health support, I'd always recommend a licensed professional.
About
Joyce Shin
I've spent my career inside fast-growing companies, building the teams and systems that let them scale. At Dropbox, I led business and organizational operations for a global Design organization of 160+ people and an approximately $40M portfolio. Before that I built and scaled teams at Instacart, CNN, and 1-800-FLOWERS.
I hold a B.S. in Neuroscience from Emory and an MBA from Duke's Fuqua School of Business, so I work at the intersection of how people perform and how organizations run.
I've lived the kind of transitions your student is facing. I went to three high schools in three countries in four years, then earned my B.S. in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology at Emory and my MBA at Duke's Fuqua School of Business. Along the way I built a career at companies like Dropbox and Instacart, leading teams and mentoring people early in their careers. I know how to help someone figure out who they are and where they're going, because I've had to do it myself, more than once.
